Gaithersburg, Md. — Wilcoxon Research has introduced a new low-cost, general-purpose accelerometer with a sensitivity of 100 mV/g and a tight +10 percent tolerance.

The new 788A sensor is said to combine the optimum combination of price and performance for condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance programs. The new single-axis sensor provides an acceleration range of &plus50 g (at full scale), and is suitable for vibration monitoring of fans, motors, pumps, blowers, compressors, chillers, gearboxes, and mixers, as well as other industrial applications.

The new device provides high frequency response measurements up to 10 kHz to identify faults and improper machine operation. Typical noise is 4 micro g at 100 Hz. The operating temperature is -50°C to 120°C. Additional features include shielding, ground isolation, and hermetic sealing against environmental contamination.

The 788A accelerometer is priced at $95.
