Milpitas, Calif.—Intersil Corp.'s ISL6535 PWM (pulse width modulation) controller integrates the control, gate drivers, output adjustment, monitoring and protection functions into a 4mm x 4mm 16-lead QFN package.

The ISL6535 includes 12-V, high-speed, 3A MOSFET gate drivers for improved gate drive capability and efficiency with less expensive MOSFETs. The ISL6535 can source and sink current, which is key for DDR (double data rate) memory applications.

"The ISL6535 error amplifier features 15MHz gain bandwidth and a 6V/µs slew rate that enables high converter bandwidth for fast transient performance," said Philip Chesley, marketing manager of Intersil's Desktop Power products group, in a statement. "The overcurrent protection monitors the current by using the rDS(ON) of the upper MOSFET, eliminating the need for a current sensing resistor and reducing the overall BOM cost."

Target applications include: power supply for some Pentium, PowerPC and graphic CPUs; high-power 12V-input DC/DC regulators; and low-voltage distributed power supplies.

The ISL6535 is available now in a 16-lead QFN package, with prices starting at $1.52 each and in a 14-lead SOIC package with prices starting at $1.39 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
