Santa Ana, Calif. — ITT, Electronic Components has developed a space-saving connector capable of handling up to 40 A for medium and large servomotors. The low-profile Cm5 connector is designed for servomotors with a flange size less than 150 mm2, and offers simplified internal wiring.

Designed to replace two bulkier conventional circular connectors, the Cm5 connector is 50 percent smaller and lighter than conventional circular connector designs and provides a high degree of vibration and shock resistance, making it suitable for industrial and other harsh environment applications. The connector is completely sealed and shielded for high reliability, and its simple harnessing reduces assembly and installation time in motor applications, said the company.

The Cm5 connectors feature IP-67 sealing, a housing with one power and up to 24 feedback insulators, each with four or six signal contacts, separated by metal shielded walls. It also has two sealed entries for power and feedback cables and a first-make/last-break power ground contact electrically linked to the shell.

The Cm5 connector meets all requirements for DIN EN61984 safety compliance and provides a 60-V signal rating, and operating voltage of up to 640 V. It supplies current ratings of 3 A for signal and 40 A for power. The connector consists of a zinc die-cast shell, Fluor rubber sealing parts, high temperature insulator material and high quality contacts.

Applications include machine tools, packaging, factory automation, food packaging, assembly lines, marking and labeling, robotics, production machines and laser trimming systems. The Cm5 connector is part of ITT's CmX series connectors.

Pricing for the Cm5 connector is typically $20 to $25 per unit in quantities of 10,000 or more. The Cm5 is also available with high-vibration resistant socket contacts at a premium. Delivery starts at three weeks.
