Overview:

Join QNX Software Systems and Freescale Semiconductor for a technical seminar that looks at understanding and overcoming the challenges of designing optimized software for dual-core processors.

Applications today require more and more processing performance within existing system power budgets. Fortunately for developers, the dual-core MPC8641D and and now the MPC8572E processors available from Freescale provides many options for increasing and optimizing application performance without dramatically increasing power consumption.

There is one problem: most embedded engineers today are only familiar with single core processor programming. To fully realize the benefits of multi-core silicon, developers need the right tools and choice of multi-processing model to enable them to design and optimize software for dual core architectures. The QNX Multi-core Technology is the only comprehensive RTOS and multi-core aware development tools solution available today.

Presenters at this seminar will address the problem by exploring proven strategies and techniques for distributing software tasks across dual cores. It will discuss the benefits and tradeoffs of several multiprocessing models (AMP, SMP, BMP) and finally discuss the various tools available for troubleshooting and optimizing Freescale's dual-core Power Architecture processors.

Presenters:

Toby Foster, Freescale

Toby Foster is a Product Marketing Manager for Freescale's Network Computing and Systems Group, focusing on the development of high-performance PowerPC processors. He is responsible for Freescale's MPC8641D high-performance integrated processor and roadmap. He also has held roles as system architect and applications engineering manager for Freescale's network processors. Mr. Foster holds an M.S. and B.S. in electrical engineering from Harvey Mudd College.

Kerry Johnson, QNX Software Systems

Kerry Johnson has 21 years of industry experience, primarily in telecommunications systems. Prior to joining QNX, he served in various roles, including software design manager, product manager, and project management director, at companies such as Nortel, CrossKeys, and Research in Motion. He currently works at QNX as a senior product marketing manager.

QNX Software Systems

QNX Software Systems, a Harman International company (NYSE: HAR), is the industry leader in realtime, embedded OS technology. The component-based architectures of the QNX Neutrino RTOS and QNX® Momentics® development suite together provide the industry's most reliable and scalable framework for building innovative, high-performance embedded systems. Global leaders such as Cisco, DaimlerChrysler, General Electric, Lockheed Martin, and Siemens depend on QNX technology for network routers, medical instruments, vehicle telematics units, security and defense systems, industrial robotics, and other mission- or life-critical applications. Founded in 1980, QNX Software Systems is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and distributes products in over 100 countries worldwide.
